An orientation program on “Compliance+ and Social Dialogue” was organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO) to strengthen labour compliance, workplace practices, and responsible business practices in Nepal’s readymade garment industry.
Welcoming the participants, Mr. Pashupati Dev Pandey, President of the Garment Association Nepal (GAN), emphasized the growing importance of responsible business practices, labour standards, and transparency across global supply chains.
Mr. Pandey stated that strengthening compliance with international labour standards and improving workplace practices are essential for maintaining the competitiveness of Nepal’s garment industry in international markets. He noted that tools such as Compliance+ can support industries in strengthening labour compliance, improving productivity, and promoting responsible business practices.
During the program, Mr. Paras Kharel, Executive Director of the South Asia Watch on Trade, Economics and Environment (SAWTEE), presented an overview of the current status of Nepal’s readymade garment industry. Representatives of the ILO also delivered presentations on labour compliance, workplace standards, and the importance of social dialogue.
The program was attended by Mr. Basanta Raj Adhikari, First Vice President of GAN; Mr. Bhim Kumar Giri, General Secretary; Mr. Satish Giri, Executive Committee Member, along with representatives of GAN member industries and other stakeholders.
The orientation program provided an important platform for garment industry stakeholders to enhance their understanding of international labour standards, compliance requirements, social dialogue, and responsible business practices, which are increasingly important for sustainable participation in global apparel supply chains.
