A three-day workshop on “Circular Economy Business Models for the Textile and Clothing Industry” was organized in Nepal in collaboration with the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the Garment Association Nepal (GAN) from May 18 to 20, 2026.
The workshop was organized with the objective of promoting Nepal’s textile and readymade garment sector, enhancing the capacity of industry stakeholders, and increasing awareness of new sustainability standards required for access to the European Union (EU) market and their implications for exporters.
Welcoming the participants, Mr. Pashupati Dev Pandey, President of GAN, highlighted the significant contribution of Nepal’s readymade garment industry to employment generation, women’s empowerment, foreign exchange earnings, and the promotion of “Made in Nepal” products in international markets.
Mr. Pandey stated that following Nepal’s graduation from the Least Developed Country (LDC) category, meeting stricter Rules of Origin requirements and increasingly demanding sustainability standards in the EU market would become more challenging for the garment industry. He emphasized that the workshop was therefore highly relevant and useful for Nepal’s textile and apparel sector.
