A three-day workshop on “Advancing Eco-design for Circularity in the Textile and Clothing Industry” was organized in Nepal in collaboration with the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the Garment Association Nepal (GAN) from June 8 to 10, 2026.

The workshop was organized with the objective of promoting Nepal’s textile and readymade garment sector, strengthening the capacity of industry stakeholders, and enhancing understanding of new sustainability standards and requirements for accessing the European Union (EU) market and their potential implications for exporters.

Welcoming the participants, Mr. Pashupati Dev Pandey, President of GAN, stated that EU rules and standards related to sustainability are becoming increasingly stringent. In this context, he emphasized that the workshop was highly important for providing Nepali garment manufacturers and exporters with practical knowledge, skills, and information to understand and effectively implement emerging requirements, safeguard their businesses, and strengthen their competitiveness in international markets.

Dr. Vidur Ghimire, Consultant at ITC, highlighted the objectives of the workshop and stated that the knowledge and practices discussed during the program would help Nepal’s readymade garment sector better understand emerging EU market requirements and benefit from opportunities in the European market.

Mr. Mim Hamal, representative of the European Union, stated that the program would be beneficial to Nepal’s readymade garment industry and emphasized that the EU would continue to provide support to help the sector address challenges and opportunities arising in the context of Nepal’s LDC graduation.
